ISLAMABAD: A significant advancement occurred as a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), entrusted with the inquiry into the May 9 riots and the assault on the residence of the Corps Commander in Lahore, arrived at Attock Jail to conduct an interrogation of Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
This course of action transpired subsequent to the approval granted by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to initiate an inquiry and potentially apprehend Khan in connection with the violent episodes that unfolded on May 9.
Comprising a team of five members led by DIG Investigation Imran Kishwar, the JIT embarked on an intensive questioning session with the PTI leader, delving into allegations of his purported engagement in the incidents of May 9.
Qureshi’s remand extended by three days in Cipher Case
This occasion marks not the initial instance where Khan has been summoned by the JIT; he previously made an appearance before the investigative unit in Lahore.
Addressing this subject, Mr. Kishwar affirmed that the Lahore law enforcement authorities would refrain from transferring the accused from Attock Jail to Lahore. Instead, the official apprehension process would be duly documented within the law enforcement records of the jail.
Meanwhile, a potentially disconcerting development has arisen with reports of threats being aimed at the JIT members involved in the investigation. The precise nature and origin of these threats remain undisclosed at present.
