ISLAMABAD: A District and Sessions court on Tuesday approved one-day physical remand of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry.

Earlier, on Sunday, the former minister was remanded in police custody for two days. Today, he was brought to court amid tight security, after initial delay.

The ex-PTI leader was arrested from his Islamabad residence last week in a police raid. According to the first information report (FIR) of the case, Fawad was arrested in a fraud case.

Earlier today, in the courtroom session, the legal representatives of Fawad Chaudhry, including lawyers Faisal Chaudhry and Qamar Inayat, along with his wife Hiba Chaudhry, made their appearance.

During the proceedings, Faisal Chaudhry, one of Fawad Chaudhry’s legal representatives, requested the police to confirm the time at which Fawad Chaudhry was required to be present for questioning.

The specified time for Fawad Chaudhry’s appearance had been set at 11 o’clock, as indicated by lawyer Qamar Inayat. However, despite the appointed time, Fawad Chaudhry had not yet arrived at the court premises.

The legal representatives sought information from the Station House Officer (SHO) of Abpara Police Station, the investigating authority in this case, regarding the exact timing for Fawad Chaudhry’s appearance. Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mahmood, presiding over the case, took note of the situation and had adjourned the hearing until the SHO of Abpara Police Station could provide clarification on the matter.

After Fawad was produced in the court, his counsel Faisal urged the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the police for covering the minister’s face both times he was presented in court, despite orders issued at the previous hearing.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor told the court that Fawad was not cooperating with the police.
