Fawad Chaudhry gets bail in corruption case

RAWALPINDI: In a recent development, the Anti-Terrorism Court, under the jurisdiction of Judge Ali Nawaz, has approved the bail plea of former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry in connection with a corruption case.

The court has set the bail amount at Rs 200,000.

Chaudhry faced allegations of soliciting substantial bribes in exchange for facilitating the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a private housing society located in Dina.

The court directed Fawad Chaudhry to submit a surety bond of Rs 200,000 against his bail plea.

Fawad Ch’s spouse Hiba Ch also confirmed the bail by posting on her social media account.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Rawalpindi had booked former federal information minister Fawad Chaudhry, his cousin and frontman and others in a case pertaining to allegedly taking millions of rupees in bribes and misuse of authority for grant of a no-objection certificate (NOC) and public land acquisition for the establishment of a private housing society in Dina area of GT Road.

The ACE Rawalpindi launched a probe into the issue in April 2023. Evidence pertaining to the alleged misuse of power by Fouq Sherbaz and Fawad Chaudhary and taking more than Rs10 million from the administration of the private housing society emerged during the inquiry, it said and added that the inquiry officer recommended filing a case against the accused.
