Civil judge’s wife arrested in maid torture case

ISLAMABAD: Police on Monday arrested the wife of a civil judge, accused of torturing her maid, after her bail plea was rejected by the District and Session Court.
The court rejecting the bail plea of Somia Asim — the wife of a civil judge —ordered the police to arrest her.
The verdict was announced by Judge Farrukh Fareed Baloch.
Maid torture case: Judge’s wife pleads innocence
The suspect Somia Asim, wife of civil judge Asim Hafeez is accused of breaking ribs, teeth and injuring other body parts including skull of her housemaid, 14-year old Rizwana, who is battling for her life at the Lahore General hospital (LGH).
Rizwana, a minor housemaid employed by the civil judge, was brought to the District Headquarters Hospital in Sargodha in critical condition reportedly with wounds on her face, head and body that were said to have been caused by a “blunt weapon”. The girl also bore burn marks on her body.
She was later shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Lahore General Hospital, with doctors fearing for her life.
