Cipher case hearing adjourned without proceeding

Toshakhana Case

ISLAMABAD: The special court established under the Official Secrets Act adjourned the cipher case hearing in the Adiala jail without any proceeding on Saturday.

The cipher case pertains to a diplomatic document that the Federal Investigation Agency’s charge sheet alleges was never returned by Imran. The PTI has long held that the document contained a threat from the United States to oust Imran as prime minister.

During today’s hearing, only the presence of former premier and PTI Chairman Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was marked.

Besides the counsels of Imran Khan, Prosecutor Shah Khawar, Advocate Zulgarnain Abbas Naqvi, Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi, and FIA’s legaL team also appeared before the court.

Imran Khan not presented in cipher case hearing, again

The media persons and public were not allowed to enter the courtroom.

However, the PTI chairman’s wife Bushra Bibi and his sisters and family members of Shah Mehmood Qureshi were present in the courtroom.

Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain adjourned the cipher case hearing till December 4.

The former premier and his aide Qureshi, who is also behind bars, were indicted in the case on Oct 23. Both have pleaded not guilty.

The trial was being held at Adiala Jail and four witnesses had already recorded their statements, with the fifth being cross-examined when an Islamabad High Court division bench had termed the government’s notification for jail trial “erroneous” and scrapped the entire proceedings.

As a result of the judgement, the special court was to start a fresh trial now.
