Alleged iPhones’ snatcher jumps into canal to escape arrest

A suspect who was wanted for snatching iPhones from citizens in the city was arrested by the Peshawar police on Sunday after he jumped into a canal to evade arrest.

The police said that the suspect, identified as Abdullah, an Afghan national, was involved in several cases of robbery and theft.

According to the police, the suspect was part of a gang that targeted people who owned iPhones and sold them in parts.

The police chased Abdullah in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar, a posh locality where many iPhone users reside. When he saw the police, he tried to escape by jumping into the canal, but the police managed to pull him out and arrest him, according to Urdu News.

According to SDPO Hayatabad Nayab Mueez, Abdullah’s relatives also attempted to stop the police and pelted stones at them. He said that Abdullah had previously spent time in jail, but was released on bail.

The police officer said that they previously recovered several iPhones and other stolen items from Abdullah’s possession.

He said that they were also looking for his accomplices who are still at large.

According to the Peshawar police, a team has been formed under ASP Hayatabad, Nayab Moeez, to pursue further investigation into the matter.
