AIOU launches app to promote linguistic diversity

WEB DESK: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) achieved a significant milestone with the introduction of its innovative web-based application dedicated to bilingual idioms and proverbs.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Vice Chancellor AIOU, Professor Dr Nasir Mahmood, witnessed the presence of deans, directors, and principal officers of the university.

During his inaugural address, Mahmood highlighted the role of technology in advancing linguistic diversity and preserving cultural heritage.

Highlighting that the integration of technology is indispensable for the younger generation, he expressed confidence that this web-based app would contribute to language learning.

The launch of this app underscores the university’s commitment to fostering linguistic diversity and embracing technological innovation in education.

According to APP, Dr Nasir Mahmood commended the pioneering efforts of the Centre for Languages and Translation Studies (CeLTS) in bringing forth this groundbreaking initiative.

Earlier in the event, Director CeLTS, Dr Ghulam, and Dr Lubna Umer delivered a comprehensive presentation, shedding light on the app’s significance, necessity, and utility.

They elaborated that the app serves as both an educational tool and utilises machine learning to aid in the preservation of endangered languages.

This initiative stands as a valuable resource for researchers and language enthusiasts alike.

As part of the announcement, the Vice Chancellor declared the upcoming year a celebratory period, marking AIOU’s 50th anniversary.

In addition, he unveiled the Golden Jubilee logo, symbolising the university’s half-century of academic excellence and innovation.
