AIOU gets new vice-chancellor

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Dr Nasir Mahmood as the Vice-Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University.

The president granted the approval for the appointment under Section 11 of the Allama Iqbal Open University Act of 1974.

According to his bio data, Dr Nasir Mahmood has more than 25 years of experience working in education sector at different levels.

He has taught research methods, educational psychology and qantitative data analysis to undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD students in various public and private sector universities.

He has completed more than 60 research projects/grants as principal, co-principal and team member. He has 57 research papers published in national and international peer reviewed journals.

President Dr Arif Alvi, who also serves as the Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), had summoned three shortlisted candidates earlier for interview to fill the slot of the AIOU vice-chancellor.

Sources said that the three candidates who were summoned for interview were Dr Nasir Mahmood, Dr Suleman Tahir, and Dr Mohammad Ali.

The interviews were conducted at the President’s House, and following this procedure, the president made the final selection for the position of AIOU’s head.

Previously, Dr Alvi had returned a summary concerning the appointment of the AIOU vice-chancellor, raising certain questions about the process.
