Torkham Border

PESHAWAR: Tensions escalated at the Torkham border between Afghanistan and Pakistan when Afghan forces attempted to establish a check post in a prohibited area adjacent to the border.

Security sources say that upon being halted by the Pakistani military, the Afghan forces initiated fire using small arms.

In a swift response, the Pakistani security forces countered the aggression by compelling the Afghan forces to retreat, effectively bringing the situation under control, sources add.

No loss of life has been reported in the skirmish.

The Torkham border has historically been a flashpoint between the two countries, with both sides maintaining military presence in the area.
